Semi Permanent

Boosts

Bring the colour back

Semi-permanent means exactly that. Every so often the colour needs putting back, and a boost is a fraction of the time and cost of starting again.

Is it for you?

It suits some people far better than others, and Alison will tell you honestly which you are.

  • Brows or lips that have gone soft but kept their shape
  • Anyone approaching the two-year mark
  • Work done here, or elsewhere, that has faded evenly

What it actually involvesfrom first look to finished

Semi-permanent means what it says, and that is the point of it. Your brows fade slowly instead of being stuck on your face for good — so when fashions move, or your hair colour changes, or you simply fancy them a bit softer, you can change them.

A boost puts the colour back into work that is already there. Because the shape is settled and your skin has been through it before, it is quicker, more comfortable and a good deal cheaper than starting again.

Come back sooner, pay less

This surprises people, because it works the opposite way round to most things: the longer you leave it, the more it costs.

Inside eighteen months it is £150, because there is still plenty to work with. Between eighteen and thirty months it is £195. Past about three years there is usually too little left to boost at all, and it is priced as a fresh treatment.

A boost is also the natural moment to change something — go a shade warmer, soften the tail, adjust for hair you have gone lighter or darker with. Say so when you book and Alison will build it in.

Work somebody else did

You are very welcome, with one condition: send a photograph first.

Old pigment carries colour that has to be worked with rather than covered. Grey, blue and orange undertones are common in older work and they do not just disappear under something new. Sometimes the honest answer is a correction rather than a boost, and occasionally it is that the kindest thing is to let it fade further first.

Alison would far rather tell you that from a photograph than after you have driven over and paid a deposit.

Questions

How do I know when I need one?

When you find yourself filling your brows in again, or reaching for lip liner. There is no fixed date — sun exposure, exfoliating acids, retinol and simply having oily skin all speed fading up.

Do I need another patch test?

Yes, if it has been more than a year since your last one. Sensitivities can develop over time.

What is semi-permanent make-up?

Cosmetic pigment placed into the upper layer of the skin with a fine needle, to shape and colour brows or lips. It is not a tattoo: the pigment is designed to break down and fade over twelve to eighteen months so the shape can be adjusted as fashions and faces change.

How long does an appointment take?

Two and a half to three hours for brows, two and a half for lips. Around 45 minutes of that is spent on shape and colour before any pigment goes in.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, at least 48 hours beforehand, every time unless you have had one here within the last twelve months. It is free and it takes five minutes.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. Consultation and patch test cost nothing and carry no obligation to book. It is also the appointment where you might be told the treatment is not right for you, which is worth having for free.
